WHY I BECAME A PRIVATE INVESTIGATOR

Through the years many people have asked me why did you become a Private Investigator?

This was not an easy question to answer.  At the time I decided to open a Private Investigation Firm,  I had a stead job as a Detective and Chief Polygraph Examiner for the Queens District Attorneys Office.  Why would I want to give that up for an uncertain future as an entrepreneur?  My original interest in becoming a private investigator stemmed from watching my favorite TV shows.  They were Magnum P.I., Mannix,
Mike Hammer, The Rockford Files and Longstreet which also had the added advantage of having Bruce Lee as a guest star, which also connected me to my other life's compassion - the martial arts.  These TV series portrayed life of a private investigator to be an exciting, rewarding and a creative one with never a dull moment.  (The funny thing is that after thirty years in business all these claims are true.)

I also wanted to be in the position to have total control of all my business management decisions and to create the environment that I wanted to live in and to be able to help people in periods of crisis.

I realized that there are certain situations in life that no government or law enforcement agency can help people in need. This is where a private investigator earns his keep.  That's where I wanted to be in life.

WORD OF ADVICE FOR THOSE LOOKING TO BECOME A PRIVATE INVESTIGATOR

Just because you may have previous police or law enforcement background, you should understand the Private Investigator needs to learn a specific set of skills, usually by trial and error.  There are books, data- bases, blogs and videos that can help. You must also be a competent business man. A Private Investigation Agency is a business that requires marketing, management and financial skills.  You would also need a deep understanding of your state laws and must be techno savvy as well.

It certainly is a rewarding life style.  Becoming the CEO of a Private Investigation Agency is one of the most wonderful lives you can live, however, when you or anyone-else from your firm goes out in the field, they do not have the back-up of a police or governmental agency.  Therefore, you must take responsibility for their safety.
